BREAKING THE RULES

Some say, rules are meant to be broken.

To me, rules are guidelines that allow people to do the "right" things. Right in relative to social norms. However, under special circumstances, rules have to be broken. For example, should a person jaywalk when the traffic light is faulty? If the person jaywalk, does it consider as breaking the rules? It all voice down to the intention when the rules are made. Ultimately, rules are created by human for the rest to conform but it may not be relevant at all time. We, human, should be flexible to the rules that we abide to.

In short, we should obey the rules when it's relevant.

Object Name: Thin Black Lines

Designer Name : Nendo

Year : 2010

Function : To sit.

Review :
This chair is designed by a Japanese designer —Nendo.
The chair makes people think whether it exist. He only used some simple line to make the chair. In some angles, we can only see lines in 2D, is like the shadow in some of our sketches. If we let a person sit on the chair. In some angles, we can see a man sit on the lines. It is like a man “sit” on some 2D lines.
“Why I can’t sit on the lines.” In his design, we can. So I think this is how he break the rule. There are some of the photos and my imagine below, to better explain my opinion.

Object Name : Eclipse Lamp

Designer Name : Mauricio Klabin

Year : 1991

Function:
It can be a table lamp or you can hang it on your ceiling and can be shifted into different angle/shape to create a different ambience.

Review:
I think this product is really sophisticated and the designer wants to give people a feeling and sensation of comfort and warmth, as if when somebody is hugging them. I love how it can be changed to different shapes and the design is also small and you can leave it as a normal table lamp or a hanging lamp whenever you want. Don’t you feel calm when you’re staring at it? Because I do!

BACK TO SCHOOL

After two and a half years of not schooling, it’s finally time for me to move on to a new phase of my life! I was so excited and nervous at the same time in anticipating this three years’ journey in NAFA. To start of I am a shy and introverted guy who take very long to get use to a foreign environment.

Creative Thinking is my very first lesson at NAFA. Although I was not late, I was the last few who entered the lecture room. This make me feel more tensed up as it seems like everyone has began to know each other before I arrived. Shortly after, we were separated into groups and I've finally met my first few NAFA friends!

They are Emily, Lynn and Vanessa!

Vanessa seems like a hipster to me as she dressed up very fashionably. I believed she is someone who can help me in generating wild ideas and develop my creative thinking. Emily and Lynn are both international students. I believed they must have worked very hard to be able to study across the borders. They seem very independent and reliable as they came to Singapore alone to achieve their dreams. I hope I can learn a lot from them.

Before the commencement of the class, I thought creative thinking will be a very boring and awkward class. However, after going through the first lesson, I realised it is not how I thought it is going to be. The way Mr Ezzam conducted the lesson makes me look forward to the next one as it was very engaging and interesting. Through the lesson, I feel that creative thinking can really unveil the hidden potential within each and everyone of us. I hope that by the end of the semester, this module can open up my imagination and allow me to be more bold in my thinking.

To end of with first blog entry post, below is a video of me playing the 'tag' game with my friends! I had never played this game before but that doesn't mean I do not have a childhood! I didn't know what to expect initially but I'm the kind of person who like to experience new things. I really enjoy this game a lot and I hope I will have more chance playing this game with my friends again. So enjoy the video below!
